Average Sunshine in Italy for January

The tables below give January averages for the hours of sunshine and number of sunny days at dozens of cities and vacation spots throughout Italy.

The numbers for hours of sunshine a place gets this month are averages from 1961 to 1990. These data are available for only some locations.

The monthly totals of days with sun are averages of weather data collected during 1971 to 2000. These are counts of the days when at least half the sky is clear of cloud. The morning figure is for 7 am and the evening is for 7 pm local time, Central European Time.

Northeastern Italy

This section takes in the regions of Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto. Three weather stations on the list are located at over 2000 metres (6560 feet) elevation: Paganella and Passo Rolle in the Dolomites and Monte Cimone of the Apennine Mountains.

Central Italy

The regions of central Italy include Lazio and Tuscany (Toscana) along the west coast, Umbria in the interior and Marche on the east coast. The highest weather station of this group sits at 1875 metres (6150 feet) on Monte Terminillo.

Southern Italy

The regions covered here make up Italy's boot, ranging from Abruzzo in the north to Calabria in the south and include Apulia (Puglia), Campania and Molise. Capo Palinuro is in the National Park of Cilento on Italy's west coast.
